Nurse Manager
We are looking for a nurse manager to lead [unit name], a [bed number]-bed [specialty] unit with a team of around [team size]. You will own the rota and skill mix, patient flow, the quality and safety of care, the development of the nursing team and the unit's staffing budget — working closely with the medical team, therapists, pharmacy and the site team.
What you'll do
- •Plan and publish the rota so each shift has the numbers and skills its patients need, and escalate any shift that cannot be made safe.
- •Lead patient flow on the unit: bed status, planned discharges and joint decisions with the site or bed team.
- •Review incidents and complaints with the team, find the system causes and follow through on the actions agreed.
- •Supervise, appraise and develop the nurses and support staff on the unit, and grow the next shift leaders.
- •Manage performance and conduct concerns fairly, using the organisation's policies and HR advice.
- •Hold the unit's staffing budget, including agency and overtime, and report the position each month.
- •Keep the unit ready for inspection, accreditation and audit through routine checks.
What you need
- •Current registration as a nurse with the applicable regulator, without conditions that would prevent you holding this post. We verify this directly with the regulator.
- •Experience leading shifts or acting as deputy, including building or adjusting a rota.
- •Experience reviewing incidents or complaints and putting changes in place afterwards.
- •Experience supervising or developing other nurses.
Nice to have
- •Experience holding or managing a staffing budget.
- •A leadership or management qualification, or willingness to complete one.
- •Experience in [specialty] or a closely related area.
- •Experience preparing a unit for an inspection or accreditation visit.
How we use AI tools
- •Where policy permits, you may use approved AI tools to draft rota messages, meeting notes or policy summaries, and you check every draft before it goes out.
- •You never put patient-identifiable or staff-personal information into a tool that is not approved for it.
- •Staffing safety decisions, incident judgements and anything said to a nurse about their performance stay with you, not with a tool.
Pay
Salary range: [currency, minimum–maximum], plus [equity/bonus/benefits]. The range reflects [location/working pattern]. We place every offer within it using the same pre-set, job-related, gender-neutral factors — size and dependency of the unit managed, budget and line-management responsibility held, depth of prior management experience — never previous salary or negotiating style.
