AI Solutions Architect
We're looking for an AI solutions architect to design how AI capabilities fit into the systems [our customers / our teams] already run. You'll decide when to build, buy or fine-tune, set out the reference architecture, work through data access and security review, put numbers on running cost and response time, and plan for when the model is wrong or unavailable — then explain the trade-offs to engineers and executives in terms each can act on. You'll work closely with [engineering / solutions / product].
What you'll do
- •Turn a customer's or team's request into a written design: the systems involved, where the model sits, what it reads and writes, and what it hands back.
- •Recommend whether to build on a general model, buy a ready-made product or service, or fine-tune a model — and record the reasons.
- •Work out what data a design needs, where that data may go and who must approve it, then take the design through security and privacy review.
- •Set cost and latency budgets before anything is built, and check designs against them.
- •Name the ways a design can fail — wrong answers, slow responses, a provider outage — and design the fallback for each.
- •Explain trade-offs to engineers in technical detail and to executives in terms of outcome, risk, cost and time.
- •Maintain reference architectures and design decision records that other teams can reuse.
What you need
- •You have designed at least one system that connected a model or other AI capability to existing business systems, and seen it built and running.
- •You can show a written design — a proposal, decision record or review — that other engineers built from.
- •You have taken a design through a data-access, security or privacy review and changed it as a result.
- •You can estimate the running cost and response time of a design and explain how you reached the numbers.
Nice to have
- •Experience on the customer side of an engagement, before or after a sale.
- •Hands-on engineering in [Python / TypeScript / Java] recent enough to judge what a design will take to build.
- •Experience comparing hosted model providers with self-hosted models on cost, latency and data handling.
- •Awareness of AI-specific rules that affect your customers' sectors, such as the EU AI Act.
How we use AI tools
- •Where company policy permits, use approved AI tools to draft designs, comparisons and estimates, and check each figure and claim before it reaches a customer or an executive.
- •Recognise when a request does not need a model at all, and say so in the design.
- •For the work sample, use any AI tools you would use at work and note which ones you used and for what.
Pay
Salary range: [currency, minimum–maximum], plus [equity/bonus/benefits]. The range reflects [location/working pattern]. We place every offer within it using the same pre-set, job-related, gender-neutral factors — level, whether the role is customer-facing, and how much travel it carries, breadth of systems and sectors the person has designed for — never previous salary or negotiating style.
